Abstract

Renewable gases, in particular hydrogen, play a key role in achieving climate neutrality. A transitional stage in the implementation of hydrogen technologies is the use of H2-NG mixtures, which will dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Accordingly, there is a need for accurate flow metering of hydrogen-natural gas mixtures. This task is complicated because of significant changes in physical and chemical properties with an increase in hydrogen concentration in the blend. Thus, to measure the flow, it is necessary to use the compressibility factor to ensure the accuracy of measurements. In this publication, the compressibility factor for gas-hydrogen mixtures with a hydrogen concentration of up to 20 % was calculated using empirical correlation methods. The obtained results of the compressibility factor are compared with the results of calculations according to the AGA8 method to conclude the suitability of these methods for gas-hydrogen mixture purposes.
